Copley Trustees Recognized for Years of ServiceFor Immediate Release01/18/2010
At Copley Health Systems’ annual meeting held Monday, January 11th, Board Chair Jan Roy shared some parting words with more than 50 attendees about outgoing board members Sue Sargent and Ken Gibbons. Roy began by stating that it has been a humbling experience working with both board members, as well as the entire board, noting, “These last few years have been extremely pleasurable working with both Sue and Ken. Copley and our community have been well served by their leadership, skills and time commitment.” Both Sargent and Gibbons have fulfilled three, three-year terms on the volunteer board of trustees. Sargent, a Morrisville resident, joined the board in November 2000 filling a vacated term. In January 2001 she was elected to her first full term. During her tenure she served in a variety of roles that included Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and Secretary of the Board. Most recently she served as Board Chair from 2005-2007. Copley Hospital President Mel Patashnick also extended gratitude, sharing that it was Sue’s strength and leadership that got Copley through some challenging times. While she may be retiring from the Copley Board of Trustees, Sargent is still very involved in community projects, including the Morristown Centennial Library. Gibbons, a Hyde Park resident and President of the Union Bank, first became involved with Copley assisting the Hospital Foundation’s fund raising activities in 1980. In the mid-1980’s he served on the Lifeline board and in early 1990 added the Health Center and Copley Terrace Boards. Gibbons transitioned to the Systems Board in November 2000 and was elected to his first full term in January 2001. During his tenure he served in a variety of leadership positions including Finance Committee Chair, Treasurer, and Vice Chair of the Board. “Ken’s business acumen and his institutional knowledge about Copley and our community have been invaluable,” said Patashnick. Trustees also recognized Chair Jan Roy, who has also fulfilled her board term. While recognizing her efforts, Patashnick acknowledged Jan’s valuable contributions, her deep commitment, and her resolve to be ever more well versed in how Copley strives to fulfill its mission to bring quality care to the community it serves. Although Roy’s term on the board has expired, she will be filling the role as appointed director for a one-year term to facilitate the Board Chair transition. Copley Health Systems and our community are fortunate to have such dedicated individuals guiding the implementation of Copley’s mission, providing direct community input to ensure the health care needs of our community are met.
