Copley Hospital recognizes staff for their professional achievements. 

Plant Operations Maintenance Technician Kevin Griggs successfully tested for his HVAC Technician Certification and is EPA Clean Air Section 608 certified.  This certification was obtained through Mainstream Engineering.  Kevin has been an integral part of Copley’s Plant Operations team since 2003. 

Monica Willey and Shannon Hewett, both of the hospital’s Patient Access department now have the credential of CHAA after their names.  Both registrars recently received certification as Certified Healthcare Access Associate through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management.  Many hours were put into studying for this exam – an exam that tested areas of admissions and registration, patient rights and responsibilities, customer service, insurance and financial information and the laws and regulations which affect patient access.  This is the only nationally recognized certification in the field of Access Services. 

Outpatient nurses Karen Willett, RN, ONC and Dave Decuicies, RN recently completed training to insert peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC lines).  A PICC line is a long thin tube that is inserted into a vein in the arm above the elbow and below the shoulder. The catheter is then moved through the body via veins until its tip reaches the superior vena cava, one of the central venous system veins that carry blood to the heart.  The PICC can be left in for weeks or months and are used for prolonged intravenous therapy, such as chemotherapy, so a patient can avoid the prick and pokes of starting a new IV for each session. They are also used for patients with veins that are difficult to access.

Karen Westervelt, PT, AT in Copley’s Sports Therapy Clinic located at Stoweflake Resort and Spa, recently passed the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties national certification exam and is now certified as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (OCS). She will be honored at an awards ceremony in February, 2010 at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections meeting.

April Tuck, Copley Hospital’s Senior Director of Human Resources and Corporate Compliance Officer, will be honored with the 2009 Outstanding Chapter Officer Award from the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA).   This award recognizes an ASHHRA’s chapter leader’s contribution within their chapter, the national organization and the Human Resource profession in general. April will be presented with the award in November.
